Ethical issues and Decision-Making in Social Work
(3 CEUs designed to meet the AZ BBHE requirement for ethics/law)
Presented by Kelly F. Jackson, MSW, PhD
Kelly is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at Arizona State University. She earned her PhD in Social Welfare from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. Kelly’s research examines the cultural identity of multi-racial people. She is also interested in developing and evaluating strengths-based interventions for multiracial and multicultural youth who are at-risk of developing psychosocial and/or health-related problems. Kelly resides in Phoenix, Arizona.
Workshop Description: This interactive workshop will discuss ethical issues in social work. Participants will examine ethical dilemmas in client-clinician relationships and discuss the importance of maintaining professional boundaries. In addition, participants will explore models used for ethical decision-making and learn strategies of how to manage dual relationships in order to protect clients and minimize risks to clinicians.
Outline of major topics to be covered:
1. The importance of professional values and ethics in human service practice
2. Managing dual relationships and maintaining professional boundaries
3. Models of ethical decision-making
4. Importance of self-care.
